Kington, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) – Appeal Court Sets Free Cops: the Court of Appeal overruled the conviction of two members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (Police), that were found guilty of corruption charges.
Policemen Oliver Johnson and Karl Roberts were acquitted on appeal of the jury verdict.
They were accused of accepting monetary bribes in 2008 in the sum of JMD$14,000.
Court documents said the officers collected money from a man in exchange for not arresting him for marijuana that was found at his home.
Reportedly the said man reported the alleged crime to the police authorities, and the two cops were later arrested and charged.
Arguments in the appeal surrounded that the policemen were arrested without adequate explanation of the charges and that the complainant (witness) gave conflicting evidence at the trial of both accused cops.
On acquittal of the charges by the Appellate Court, the policemen were freed.
