St James, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) – Men Caught with Illegal Firearms: two men are now facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition at the Freeport station after they were caught in possession of two illegal firearms in the community of Anchovy, St James on Saturday afternoon, January 6.
Since the start of the year, these are the first illegal firearms to be seized, but a total of 22 rounds of ammunition have been seized from the streets of the parish.
The lawmen also indicated that three persons including two men and a woman have been taken into custody in connection with the seizures.
Reports by the police are that the more recent incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, January 6 in the Anchovy square. It is reported that police officers were carrying out routine spot checks along a section of the Anchovy Square when they intercepted a Toyota Axio motor car with two men on board and ordered the men to stop the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of two 9mm semi-automatic pistols loaded with several live rounds.
The men were taken into custody and are awaiting to face a series of Identification Parades.
Investigator also pointed out that on Friday a house was searched in the Albion community and during the search, several rounds of ammunition were seized.
A female who was on the premises was taken into custody and slapped with illegal charges.
A total of 173 illegal firearms were seized in St James in 2017.
