Jamaica Crime News, St James: A joint military operation carried out in Salt Spring, St. James on Wednesday morning, March 27, have resulted in the fatal shooting of one man and the seizure of an illegal firearm and several rounds of ammunition.

The dead gunman has been identified as 24-year-old. Lance Calvert, laborer of a Salt Spring address.

Reports are that shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, a joint military operation was carried out at a section of Salt Spring, in St James, known as Cottage.

On reaching a house in the community, the lawmen reported that they came under heavy gunfire from a group of armed men. The fire was returned and the men ran and escaped in nearby bushes.

The police then carried out a search of the area and found Calvert suffering from gunshot wounds. A 9mm semi-automatic pistol, loaded with several rounds of ammunition was taken from him.

He was transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
