Latest Jamaica News: Former People’s National Party (PNP) Vice President, and St Andrew South West MP Dr. Angela Brown Burke has been appointed campaign director for the party’s presidential aspirant and Central Manchester MP, Peter Bunting.
The announcement was made by Bunting’s Rise United Campaign team last night in a news release.
It came shortly after her husband Paul Burke’s accusations that she deceived him by supporting the former banker and not his opponent Dr. Peter Phillips, were leaked to the media. Paul Burke is a former general secretary, of the PNP.
Mr Burke had argued that despite his wife having a right to support the contestant of her choice, she had been untruthful in her utterances to him as she had said over and over that she was not in favour of Bunting.
In last night’s statement the Rise United campaign said since Brown Burke, whose constituency has the highest number of delegates in the party, made her decision to join the camp on Friday, she has been “making contributions”.
Last Friday, Bunting’s campaign team also announced that Dr. Brown Burke was among 12 people who nominated him to eject Dr. Phillips in the presidential election which is set for Saturday, September 7.
Dr. Phillips who took over as PNP president in 2017 following Portia Simpson Miller’s retirement, has since led the PNP to two by-election defeats in constituencies regarded traditionally as “safe seats” for the party.
