Alleged Phone Thief Shot and Injured, After Attacking Police with Machete, in Westmoreland

Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: A 19-year-old man who reportedly broke into a premises at Llandilo Housing Scheme in Westmoreland and later attacked members of a police party with a machete, was shot and injured, and is presently at hospital under police guard.

The name of the accused is being withheld pending further investigations.

Reports by the Westmoreland police are that about 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, the teenager and two other men, allegedly broke into a house in Llandilo, and stole a cellular phone.

The police were summoned and tracked the phone to a location in Amity district, where they saw the accused and two other men standing along the roadway.

They were approached by the police, and while in the process of being questioned, the accused allegedly attacked the policemen with a machete, and was shot.

He was taken to the Savanna-la-mar hospital, where he was admitted under police guard.
