Alleged Gunman Shot and Killed By Police In Westmoreland

Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: A man, who reportedly challenged members of the security forces in a shootout in the parish of Westmoreland on Friday night of June 22nd, was shot and killed and a .9mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with several live rounds taken from him.
He has been identified as, James Brown, otherwise called (Andy), he is a laborer of Summer Set Lane in Negril, Westmoreland.
Reports by the Negril police are that, shortly after 8:30 pm, on Friday a joint military team were carrying out vehicular spot checks along a section of the roadway in Negril known as Negril Spot.
The lawmen stated that they signaled the driver of a motor vehicle to stop and he disobeyed. The driver then jumped from the vehicle and brandished a handgun and fired several shots at the lawmen.
The police took evasive action and returned the fire and Brown was fatally shot. The police also reported that a Black .9mm semi-automatic pistol, loaded with four live rounds, was taken from him.
Brown was later pronounced dead at hospital. A team attached to INDECOM is now carrying out investigation surrounding this latest fatal shooting.
