Despite founding one of the largest websites in the country (that would be Reddit), you’re probably more familiar with Alexis Ohanian for his recent role as an A+ husband and father. See: Alexis and Serena Williams’ adorable daughter (and her Twitter account) that much-talked about trip to Italy, and the couple’s gorgeous New Orleans wedding.
But Alexis is just as involved in the business world as ever, and his newest project could help you out. Folgers 1850 Brand Coffee Bold Pioneer contest invites entrepreneurs to pitch ideas to Alexis, with the winner scoring a one-on-one mentor session with Alexis himself. We spoke to Alexis about the contest, his coffee habits, and what the heck was up with that jaunt to Italy.
On His Must-Have Desert Island Food
Alexis describes himself as a “hard core coffee drinker.” It’s his go-to answer to the “what’s the one thing you’d bring on a desert island?” question and a key part of his life. When he travels – which is often – Alexis brings along a hand grinder and French press. “I can wake up anywhere in the world and as long as I have hot water, I can have great fresh coffee.”
He drinks it black – “that’s the only way to take it; any other answer is wrong,” he joked – and has a cup right when he wakes up, with a second after lunch. Sometimes, much to Serena’s dismay, he’ll drink another around 9 or 10 p.m. and have no problem falling asleep.
“So, it wasn’t as spontaneous as a lot of people projected it to be,” Alexis explained. “We rarely get a vacation, [and] it was a chance for us to take a week off as a family, spend time together, and not work.” See, even celebs have to plan out their vacation days. Regardless, the trip still looked pretty wonderful – especially since it was Serena’s first time in Venice and Alexis’ first time back since he went as a “broke college student.”
The Reason He Eats Super Clean
It won’t come as much of a surprise, but Alexis describes himself and his wife as pretty darn healthy. While Serena’s job obviously plays a role in what the couple eats, daughter Olympia has also convinced Alexis to cut out some of his less healthy habits. “I wanted to start eating better and exercising more once I found out I was gonna be a dad,” he says. “My primary goal is to be as healthy as I can for as long as I can so I can be around for her.”
Alexis sticks to lots of veggies, leafy greens, and clean proteins like beans and nuts, with occasional breaks in his plant-based diet for meat. His current favorite meal, though? The Impossible Burger. “Hand to god, it is a dead ringer for ground beef.”
