Jamaica News, March 2, 2018 – Ak-47 Rifle Seized in Westmoreland 

Westmoreland, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – The Westmoreland police are now carrying out a search for three men who escaped being arrested by the police on Thursday, but left behind an AK-47 assault rifle and several rounds of ammunition.

Reports by the Grange Hill police are that shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, a team of officers were on patrol in Delphland District when they came upon a group of men.

Upon seeing the lawmen approaching, the men ran and escape through a gully.

A search was carried out in the area which led to the discovery of an AK-47 Assault Rifle with a magazine wrapped in a black plastic bag.

A further search of the area led to further discovery of 164 assorted rounds.  Forty-One -7.62 rounds,  Fifty Two – .45 rounds, Forty-Four – 9mm rounds and Twenty Seven – 12 gauge cartridges which were found in a white plastic bucket.

The police also stated that they believed the men who fled the scene were involved in the lottery scam, and the illegal firearm and the ammunition are proceedings from the scam, as four Leeds sheets bearing the name and personal information of overseas residents were also found.
