African Union to employ more Youth

The African Union recently announced that they will be increasing the percentage of young people (17-35 years old) employed by the African Union institutions from 17-35% by 2025 to help connect the African Union to the Youths. This decision came as a result of the African Unions reform which will help them achieve their targets by 2063.

This decision is also in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The African Union Agenda 2063 Initiative envisioned “an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the international arena”.

The African Union Commission recently appointed its first AU Youth Envoy. In a statement released by the African Union Commission “The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, today appointed Ms. Aya Chebbi from Tunisia as his Envoy for the Youth. This appointment is a follow-up to the relevant decisions of the African Union policy organs and part of the continental efforts to harness the demographic dividend, empower young people across Africa, and further mobilize them in pursuit of the aspirations outlined in Agenda 2063.”

The Youths are the future of African and as such, every mechanism should be put in place to help the African youths realize Agenda 2030. The African Union 2063 Framework document which focuses on the African we Want emphasizes on “A shared strategic framework for inclusive growth and sustainable development & a global strategy to optimize the use of Africa’s resources for the benefit of all Africans”.

The new Global Sustainable Development Network is also trying to identify more African Youths for them serve on the different working groups of the organization. These includes:

Poverty Reduction, Health & Well Being Commission

Environmental Preservation Council

International Commission for Education, Peace & Partnership

Economy, Science, Technology and Innovation Commission

The African youths have many innovative ideas that they can contribute to this world and all they want is just the slightest of opportunities to do so.
