Jamaica News: As part of its customer relations activities, the Accountant General’s Department (AGD) hosted its ‘Carols in the City’ in downtown Kingston on December 14.

The activity involved a spectacular parade of festive sounds featuring a host of exceptional choirs from Government of Jamaica organisations in the downtown business district.

The carolling procession journeyed from the intersection of Harbour Street and King Street, moving down King Street on to Ocean Boulevard, culminating in a grand finale at the AGD’s Church Street offices.

The parade also featured actors playing Mary and Joseph seeking an inn.

Director of Communication and Customer Relations at the AGD, Tanisha Weir Grant, told JIS News that the AGD wanted to convey compassion and spread cheer to its customers and wider community.

“We want everyone to try and touch the lives of someone this Christmas,” Mrs. Weir Grant said.

Choirs from the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), Tax Administration of Jamaica (TAJ), Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA), and the AGD lent their voices to the joyous Christmas celebrations.

Mrs. Weir Grant also informed that the AGD reached out to its pensioners who are bedridden and disabled.

“We took our services to them. We went to their homes, the hospital and the nursing homes to ensure they received their pension. Most of them cannot help themselves, and some have no one to assist them, so we decided to provide the additional support to ensure they receive their payments,” she stated.

Additionally, Mrs. Weir Grant said for those pensioners who were unable to open bank accounts, the AGD took their cheques to them.
