Jamaica News: Four facilities in St. Catherine are slated to benefit from the proceeds of a 5k charity run/walk to take place on Sunday, October 14 in Spanish Town.

They are the Spanish Town Infirmary, Alta Vista Children’s Home, the Sunbeam Boys’ Home, and the Spanish Town Skills Training Centre (STSTC).

The fundraising event is being staged by the Central Jamaica Conference (CJC) of Seventh-day Adventists in collaboration with the STSTC.

Following a 6:00 a.m. warm-up session at Greg’s Extreme Fitness, 32 Brunswick Avenue, the event will commence at 7:00 a.m. at the G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sport.

Organiser of the event, Ruth James, told JIS News that the beneficiary   institutions provide very important services, and while participants in the run/walk will be making a positive health statement, they will also be contributing to the welfare of others.

The Spanish Town Infirmary provides food, clothing, housing, medical care, and emotional support for indigent persons in St. Catherine. It is an agency of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development and is overseen by the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation.

STSTC is a community-based institution that offers training for professionals, at-risk youth, non-certified and unskilled employees and employers in partnership with the HEART Trust/NTA.

Alta Vista Children’s Home cares for orphaned and abandoned children, while the Sunbeam Boys’ Home serves both children and young adults.

Registration is open until the morning of the event, and interested persons can call (876) 919-2561, or email [email protected].
