Latest Jamaica News, St James: Bail was set at $500,000 for a St. James man on Wednesday, July 24, after he was reportedly caught in possession of a motor car that had been reported stolen.
Thirty-seven-year-old Andre Clarke of a Paradise Heights address, appeared before presiding judge Sandria Wong-Small on charges of larceny of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.
Reports are that on July 18, 2019, about 12 noon, the police were on an operation in the Wiltshire community when Clarke was seen at a premises with a grey Toyota Corolla Axio motor car which was reported stolen in Harbour View, Kingston the previous day.
Clarke was asked to say how he came in possession of the vehicle. He told the officer that he had purchased it, but failed to present the car documents. Hence he was arrested and charged.
During his bail application on Wednesday, defense lawyer Martyn Thomas told the court that his client had purchased the vehicle and that he cooperated with the police. The lawyer also stated that Clarke had told the police from whom he had bought the vehicle.
Wong-Small subsequently offered him bail in the sum of $500,000 with up to three sureties and with reporting conditions attached. The judge also imposed a curfew order between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. and instructed him to surrender his travel documents. A stop order will also be placed at all ports.
The matter was set for mention again on October 17.
