Hanover: At Least 5 Persons Confirmed Dead in Hopewell Traffic Accident
Jamaica News, Hanover – Hopewell Traffic Accident: At least five persons including a female are confirmed dead and three others including a small child rushed to hospital in serious condition, following a motor vehicle accident which occurred along a section of the Orchard main road in Hopewell on Sunday night, May 20.
So far one of the men has been identified as Phillip Jones. The identities of the other victims are not yet verified, but our news team learnt that all five victims are said to be from the community of Green Pond in the parish of St James.
Reports by the Sandy Bay Traffic police are that about 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, one of the vehicle which is said to be a silver Toyota Corolla motor car “King Fish” was travelling from the directions of Negril towards Montego Bay with four males and a female on board.
On reaching a section of the Orchard main road in the vicinity of the Hopewell Service Station, the driver of the vehicle collided into another white station wagon Toyota Corolla motor car which was travelling in the opposite direction.
All five victims who were travelling in the silver Toyota sustained head and body injuries and died on the spot. Three other persons, including a female and a small child, who were travelling in the white Corolla also sustained injuries and were rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where they were admitted in serious condition.
The police and fire department were summoned and upon arrival on the scene, it took them several hours to clear the debris from the roadway and also to remove all the victims from the wreckage of the ill-fated vehicle.
