4 Illegal Guns, 72-Rounds Ammunition Seized in Hanover


Jamaica Crime News, Hanover: The Hanover police reaped success on the Easter Holidays, following the seizure of four illegal firearms and over seventy rounds of ammunition.

The weapons seized are, a Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistol, one mini Taurus 9mm pistol, one Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol and an Intratec submachine gun, along with seventy-six 9mm rounds.

Reports are that shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, a team of officers were on patrol at a section of Santoy district in Green Island policing area, when they saw a group of men who were gathered at a grave digging at the Santoy cemetery, located along Church Hill Road, in Santoy district.

On seeing the lawmen approaching, the men started to act in a suspicious manner and their actions arose the suspicions of the officers.

A search was carried out of their persons and the surroundings of the cemetery, which led to the discovery of the four weapons. The ammunition was found hidden in bushes surrounding the cemetery.

Superintendent Sharon Beeput, Commanding Officer in Charge of Hanover related that: “With several social events scheduled to take place throughout the parish during the Easter holiday period, the operation was part of plans to ensure the safety and security of residents and visitors.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
