Jamaica News, St James: During the year 2018 a total of 24 persons lost their lives, in 18 separate road accidents around the parish of St James.
The most recent victim, a 35-year-old female Canadian tourist who was vacationing in Jamaica, lost her life in a motor vehicle accident which occurred along a section along Kent Avenue, (Bottom Road) in Montego Bay, St James, on Monday morning, December 31.
The dead woman has been identified as Cynthia Giquere of a Canada address.
Reports by the police are that about 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Giquere and a male friend who hails from Montpelier, in Sandy Bay, Hanover, were traveling in a blue and black Toyota Corolla motor car, from the directions of downtown Montego Bay, toward a section of Kent Avenue, known as (Bottom Road or Dead-End).
On reaching a section of the roadway in the vicinity of Sandals Inn, the male driver lost control of the vehicle, which skidded across the roadway and crashed into the retaining wall.
Both Giquere and the driver suffered injuries, and were rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where Giquere was pronounced dead, and the driver treated and admitted.
At the end of the previous year, a total of 24 persons lost their lives, in 18 road accidents, which occurred across the parish of St James, while 24 persons also lost their lives in the year 2017, but in a total of 23 road accidents.
