Jamaica Crime News, Kingston: A 19-year-old teenager and a 22-year-old laborer were both charged with Breaches of the dangerous drugs act, after the teenager was caught attempting to leave the island with over 6 pounds of ganja on Thursday, October 11.
Both accused who have since been charged with possession of and dealing in ganja, taking steps preparatory to export ganja and conspiracy, have been identified as Kaydian Sheppy of a Kingston 11 address and Osbourne Rowe, laborer of Spanish Town in St Catherine.
Reports by the police are that about 11:30 a.m., Sheppy was in the process of boarding a flight at the Norman Manley International Airport destined for the Eastern Caribbean, when irregularities were detected with her luggage.
A search was carried out and her suitcase discovered to have a false compartment.
A further search led to the discovery of ganja weighing approximately six and a half pounds.
Upon being arrested, the teenage girl informed the police that the suitcase was given to her by Rowe.
An investigation was carried out and Rowe was held and also charged.
Both accused are booked to appear in Court on Wednesday, October 17.
