17-year-old Shot and Killed by Off-duty Police Officer in Hanover

Latest Jamaica News, Hanover (McKoy’s News): 17-year-old Shot and Killed by Off-duty Police Officer 17-year-old student, Anthony Bernard, was fatally shot by an off-duty police officer in Hanover on Sunday, October 13.

Reports are that Bernard was involved in an altercation with the officer who was dressed in civilian clothing. According to his relatives, the policeman and Bernard were at a location where the teen had gone to change money when the police officer demanded that he stopped smoking.

It is alleged that an altercation developed after the policeman physically attacked him. Bernard left and returned to the scene with a machete.

According to sources, the policeman pulled his gun while Bernard was still some distance away. The teenager dropped the machete, apologized and attempted to flee, however, the policeman pursued him and opened fire hitting him. He then stood over him and attempted to shoot him again but residents prevented him from doing so.

Bernard was assisted to hospital where he died.
