123 Westmoreland Murders Recorded since the Start of 2017

Westmoreland, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News)-123 Westmoreland Murders: The police in the parish of  Westmoreland has reported that since the start of the year,  there has been almost a 100% increase in the number of murders committed.

Investigations pointed out that a total of 123 murders have been recorded in  Westmoreland up to Wednesday, November 8, 2017, while up to this time in 2016, there had been only 78 murders. The police say most of these murders took place within the Grange Hill, Negril, Bethel Town and Savanna-la-Mar policing areas. They are also saying that investigations have revealed that most of these killings are gang-related, and the inner communities of the parish have involved more gang activity than over past periods.

One police source mentioned that there have been more unsolved murders this year and more females have been murdered within a shorter period than in previous years.

The police say they are now implementing stronger security measures in a number of these communities, to clamp down on these gang members and ensure the safety of residents.
