12 Injured in Spanish Town Minibus Accident

Spanish Town, St. Catherine (McN) – Following a two car collision at the Caymanas/Mandela Highway, in St. Catherine, 12 persons were hospitalized at the Spanish Town Hospital with serious injuries.

Reports are that a Passenger Toyota Hiace minibus in route from  Spanish Town to Portmore, and a Nissan motor car collided, leaving the the driver of the Nissan motor care unconscious and in critical condition.

Police Corporal Lloyd Wellington of the Ferry Police Station, reports that the Nissan motor car was traveling towards Spanish Town when it collided with the Toyota Hiace minibus which was turning right at the traffic light. The bus then lost control and crashed into on of the traffic lights post.

The motor car also lost control and then hit another traffic light breaking it.

Both driver of the motor car and the driver of the minibus and their passengers reportedly were rushed to the hospital with head injuries and broken bones.

According to Corporal Wellington, speed may have been the main component of the accident

“It appears that both drivers were travelling at a high speed.”
