Westmoreland, Jamaica ( McKoy’s News) – Westmoreland Police Sergeant Held: The Westmoreland Police have launched an investigation into a drug bust involving a Sergeant of police, stationed at the Westmoreland division and who is among three men who were arrested in connection with a massive ganja bust in the parish of Hanover on Thursday night.

Reports are that about 8:20 pm on Thursday, July 13th, a team of officers attached to the Narcotics Division, acting on intelligence, carried out an operation along the Old Road in Green Island Hanover.

On reaching the location, the police saw a  white truck with three men on board and a black Nissan Sunny motor car which was parked in the dark along the roadway.

Upon seeing the police approaching the occupants in the car fired on the police and escaped in nearby bushes.

Swift action by the police led to the apprehension of the three men. They were later identified to be the Sergeant of police stationed in Westmoreland, a farmer of Kentucky District in Westmoreland and a Merchandiser of Savanna-la-mar.

A search of the truck led to the seizure of several knitted bags containing vegetable matter resembling ganja and weighing over 2000 pounds.

The drug is believed to have a street value of several million dollars.  The police officer and the other two men were taken into custody and will be charged sometime today.
