Hip-Hop Artist DMX Pleads Guilty To $1.7 Million Tax Evasion

New York, United States (Mckoy’s News) – Hip-Hop Artist DMX Pleads Guilty: Appearing before a New York federal judge on Thursday, Nov. 30,  Rapper DMX plead guilty to tax fraud, admitting he concealed millions of dollars in revenues to evade $1.7 million in taxes he owed.

46-year-old DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced in Manhattan federal court in March 2018.

According to ABC News, Joon H. Kim, the acting United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, reported last Thursday,  “Today, Earl Simmons admitted to systematically cheating on his taxes. By insisting to be paid in cash whenever possible and having royalty payments diverted to the accounts of financial surrogates, Simmons concealed hundreds of thousands of dollars of income from the IRS,”

“Simmons made a choice between ‘Right or Wrong,’ and did the right thing, admitting his guilt, and agreeing to pay his tax liabilities. No matter who you are or whatever fame you may have achieved, the law applies equally to all, and no one is exempt from the shared obligation to pay our taxes.” Continued US prosecutor Joon H. Kim

Hip-Hop Artist DMX Pleads Guilty : Judge Jed Rakoff set sentencing for March 29, though the date is likely to be postponed as DMX continues rehabilitation for drug and alcohol issues.

According to US authorities, the IRS pursued DMX since 2005.
